The World’s Resolution

I’m not one for making lists, planing, or even changing, but I feel like I need to get my priorities in check. I need to change my ways, and admit to myself that things are not okay the way they are. This will be about resolutions not habits..about completely eradicating the habits that have formed over these past nineteen years, not forming new habits to make up for the bad ones. This isn’t just for me, it’s for everyone…so re-blog and add-away.

1. Call home, regularly.
Parents aren’t as strong as you think, sometimes they need to hear your voice to make it through the week without you.
2. Admit when you are wrong
Pride is something that we all, as humans, have a problem with, so if you have done something wrong…admit it. Even the most powerful people in history showed a little humility, and no one likes a smart-alec.
3. Admit when you are right
I don’t know if anyone else has a problem with this, but I tend to hold back even when I shouldn’t. So, speak-up…we’re not a nation of mind-readers.
4. Stop betting on the future
I tend to be a dreamer. I have spent may nights tossing and turning, planning what would happen’s and what if’s. So stop and make your own future, the only things written in stone are the epitaphs on the graves of the dead.
5. Step-out from in front of the television
Sundays in the south are usually spent at church and in front of the television watching the football game. There’s nothing wrong with that—I’m a bit of a football freak myself—because Sunday’s are meant for rest. However, don’t let that little box absorb you’re entire week. I’d say two hours a day is a manageable time-limit for you to catch-up on Glee and SVU.
6. Read, one book a week
One of the most gifted items of 2010 was the Amazon Kindle, so utilize it. There are loads of free books on the market, most of them classics. Read good stuff, like Pulitzer Prize winners. Also, support a local bookstore—the owners can be some interesting people.  Reading isn’t hard and before you know it you’ll be blowing through a book every three or so days and using words in ways you never thought possible, but, most of all, you will be analyzing the world around you.
7. Carry and utilize a daily planner
You forget things, get over it. The best way to prevent this is by using a daily planner. Whether it be the history exam at 2:30 or your sister’s seventh birthday, document it so you won’t forget it.
8. Meet new people
I spent the first semester of college scowling at the people around me, disgusted at the lives they live; afraid that they would not meet the expectations I had of them, in my mind. By mid-September, I was absolutely miserable and spending most of my time in my room watching television and eating (embracing the freshman 15). You can’t do that anymore. We are all unique and that is something you need to embrace. When people say hello, smile back ask how they are. Simply, engage in conversation and who knows maybe you’ll be running for SGA president your senior year.
9. Spend time with your religion
I’m not advocating any sort of faith but life is hard, it’s harder if you are alone. Speak with your creator and in doing so, maybe you’ll understand what we are all doing running around on the surface of the tiny planet.

I’m encouraging re-blogs and replies because maybe with this list we can form a better world in 2011.

Finally a personal tumblr!

get excited.
